Community

One of the best things about attending a university is the community it provides. The computer science department is commited to giving students the tools necessary to effectively communicate together. Here are a few we provide:

Organization Groups

    ACM

The Association for Computing Machinery is a nation wide organization and was the first of its kind. The local MTSU chapter of the ACM is a great place to meet people, talk about technology, and just have fun. Every ACM meeting features pizza and soda and presentations from key members in the computer science industry. This group sponsers various things around the department from chairs to equipment.

    WCS

WCS (Women in Computer Science) was organized in Summer, 2007 to address problems in attracting female students to the computer science profession and in aiding the retention of these students. Many activites are planned for this organization and we hope that all female computer science majors and/or minors will plan to join this organization.

Online Resources

    Forums - Computer Science Cafe`

The Computer Science Cafe`, sponsered by the ACM, provides a place for anyone to come and discuss any aspect of computer science. From code to the department, it all goes.

    Mailing Lists

Mailing lists are a great way to keep in touch with members of a group and stay on top of news. It's also a great way to meet people with a common interest. If a particular group is not listed on the lists main page that you are interested in, contact neal@cs.mtsu.edu and tell him you're interested in starting a group.

    Wiki

The wiki is a great place for searching for information on how to use the various resources probided by the computer science department. It ranges from how to connect to Shemp and Linux Row to how to forward your mail account to somewhere else.
